“Madeline at 75: The Art of Ludwig Bemelmans” opens at The Eric Carle Museum of Picture Book Art this Saturday. To mark the anniversary of everyone’s favorite schoolgirl, Madeline, this exhibition celebrates Ludwig Bemelman’s legacy. Drawings from each of the six Madeline books will be on view, plus a generous cross-section of his other artwork for children and adults. A Bemelmans bar brought back from Paris, delightful fabric designs and memorabilia like the Bad Hat’s original hat are just a few of the treasures that will be on view.

The Eric Carle Museum of Picture Book Art is proud to present an exhibition featuring the work of Bernard Waber, author and illustrator of more than thirty picture books including “Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile,” “Fast Food! Gulp! Gulp!,” “Lorenzo,” and “The House on East 88th Street.”

Natalie Merchant’s double album “Leave Your Sleep” arrived in 2010 to rave reviews, transforming a selection of classic children’s poetry into a collection of original songs. In 2012, the picture book of the same title was published with richly imagined watercolors by illustrator Barbara McClintock. Now, The Eric Carle Museum of Picture Book Art in Amherst, MA, will showcase the art from the book in the upcoming exhibition “Leave Your Sleep: Natalie Merchant and Barbara McClintock,” beginning November 26, 2013 and running through May 4, 2014…
