Summer Solstice Illuminates Learning for Families

It’s hard to believe it is almost here: June 21st, the longest day, the shortest night. Summer Solstice. That in itself means there is a lot to celebrate and enjoy. It’s a great opportunity also to connect to nature and to educate your child on this seasonal phenomenon. The wealth of history and science that rows behind Summer Solstice is fascinating, and the tone is always about celebrating nature at its most abundant. There are events in the area to mark the longest day, and also resources you can access to generate dialog with your family!

The Art and Science of Butterflies at Berkshire Museum

Take yourself into the world of the exotic intrigue of “Butterflies” at Berkshire Museum’s newest exhibit where the whole family will be introduced to butterflies from all around the world. The butterfly effect brings educational opportunities beyond where these beautiful creatures come from but also explores their representation in art and how studying them stimulates the analytical mind. Pair a visit to the museum with a visit to Project Native’s Butterfly House, and a study of the metamorphosis of caterpillars into butterflies at home, and have a well rounded community-based educational experience this summer that supports interests in entomology, ecology, and even math art & history!
