Fall is “Boo”tiful in the Berkshires Last weekend I broke out my gloves, hat and favorite cozy fleece, grabbed the travel mug filled to the rim with a delectable hazelnut blend, and prepared myself for a full day of football at Bill Laston Memorial Park in Lanesboro. The air was crisp and clean, the brilliant foliage filled the landscape and eased my mind, and the energy on the gridiron was contagious. Ahh,… Read More

I should make bark-like faces to put on the trees on the Common!” I could use the same technique many of the float-builders use at Mardi Gras in their Papier Mache—same words, completely different process from what others think of as Papier Mache. I proposed it to the… Read More

Video: The Day After Halloween Here’s a cute music video, The Day After Halloween, the Sippy Cups sent our way:

History of Halloween Halloween isn’t just costumes and candy; it’s a cultural holiday rich in tradition.  This three minute video by National Geographic give a outline of the history of Halloween:

Fair Trade Halloween Candy Halloween should be scary, but only for a day. Unfortunately, holiday treats can contribute to a witch’s cauldron of frightening problems that persist long after the masks come off. Pesticides and fertilizers used in the production of sugar have led to the destruction of aquatic ecosystems. The loss of topsoil to cane fields has destroyed forest habitats. But sugar’s sins start with the slave trade, as Europeans brought… Read More

Orange, Black and Green for Halloween Nothing kills a parent’s festive Halloween mood like realizing what a nutritional nightmare this holiday can be. After the fun of dressing up and trick-or-treating are over, kids are left with a pile of artificially sweetened candy that wreaks havoc on their health. High fructose corn syrup, Halloween’s most pervasive ghoul, is a leading contributor to childhood obesity and is frequently made from genetically modified corn… Read More

Video: Candy Corn I loved this video when I first saw it on Noggin’.
