The Putney School Summer Arts. Putney, VT. The Putney School Summer Arts hosts summer arts workshops in June and July for high school students and a one-week workshop for adults in August. Create and connect through art. Dive deep into workshops and join a wildly creative community on a hilltop farm in Vermont. Dance off the mid-winter blues this weekend! On Saturday, March 14, from 10am-12noon, Hilltown Families and Flywheel will finish our beloved ‘Saturday Morning Music Party‘ series with a final community breakfast bash for the winter, featuring pancake, dancing, and diversions for kids at Flywheel Arts Collective in Easthampton. Following the pancake breakfast, DJ Youthelectronix will be spinning family dance tunes for the “best ever dance party before noon!” Save on the babysitter and celebrate mid-Winter with a Saturday Morning Music Party! Holiday Vacation Programs: With schools out for the holidays, the New England Air Museum is hosting a series of daily interactive workshops. Activities will be offered from 10:30am-2:30pm each day and are included with admission (unless otherwise noted). Winter Fair! An alternative to traditional holiday buying, this fun and participatory Winter Fair on Dec. 7, 10am-3pm, at the Hilltown Cooperative Charter Public School in Easthampton offers a chance to create homemade gifts and enjoy crafting, musical performances and delicious food! Many crafts use recycled and natural materials – including fairy houses, full-sized wreaths, jewelry, herbal sachets, and more. Saturday, November 23rd – REVIVE! A Center School Open House and Community Upcycling Event. Join the Center School as they make old things new again. Teachers will be offering fresh, cool, upcycling projects—make a no-sew t-shirt bag, create a key rack using old keys, design felted woolens accessories, build an invention with recycled materials, weave a jump rope from old sheets, and more. All classrooms will be open, and teachers will be on hand. On Friday, November 29th, the New England Air Museum will host jolly St. Nick! Come and have a “Selfie with Santa” aboard a Sikorsky Seaguard helicopter between 11am and 12noon. Skate with the Skating Club of Amherst, the oldest figure skating club in Western MA. They are offering professional instruction at all levels, beginner to advanced. On Saturday, October 26, the New England Air Museum will host a Haunted Hangars Trick or Treat event from 10am-3pm. Ghosts, Witches, Princesses, and Superheroes are invited to tour the museum and collect a treat when they sit in the pilot’s seat of our “spooky themed” historic aircraft. A costume contest will be held where the winning Trick or Treater will receive a free family membership to the museum. Both children and adults are welcome for this kid-friendly, un-scary event. Visitors will also have the chance to climb aboard historic aircraft, plus receive Halloween treats. The Common School will hold its annual Children’s Carnival, open to the wider Pioneer Valley community, on Saturday, October 19, from 10am-2pm, on the school’s campus at 521 South Pleasant Street in Amherst, MA. Pittsfield, MA. ♦ The Barrington Stage Company Education Department mission is to awaken the minds, imaginations, and creative power of children, teenagers, and young adults by providing opportunities to experience the joy of live theatre as performers, writers, technicians, and audience members. KidsAct! & TeensAct! are summer camps for ages 7–14 to create new musical plays. KidsAct! Jr. is in the fall and spring for ages 4–6. Auditions for Youth Theatre are in January, which extends the professionalism of an Equity production to local youth, 13-19, with performances in summer. Amherst Leisure Services Community Theater (ALSCT) announces auditions for Roald Dahl’s Matilda The Musical! Auditions will take place September 13-15 at the Bangs Community Center in Amherst, MA. This Tony Award-winning musical, based on the novel by the “brilliantly batty” Roald Dahl, will be presented with lavish sets and costumes, a full live orchestra, and enthusiastic audiences to fill the 600-seat UMass Bowker Auditorium for 9 performances in January 2020. Actors, singers, and dancers ages 7-107 are encouraged to audition! September brings a great line up at events at The Eric Carle Museum of Picture Book Art in Amherst, MA. Mister G, the bilingual rock star, will get you dancing and share and sign his new book, Señorita Mariposa, on Saturday, September 7 at 11am. Reservations are recommended. On Sunday, September 8 at 1pm join their book party with Mac Barnett and Greg Pizzoli who will showcase their new early reader series, Hi Jack! Young readers will love Barnett’s snappy text, while aspiring artists will enjoy Pizzoli’s ‘How to Draw’ segments at the end of each book. Book signing to follow. Nerissa Nields Local Chorus. Northampton, MA ♦ Nerissa Nields runs a Local Chorus for ages 5-13, a performance group in 3-part harmony. Rehearsals are Tuesdays from 4-4:45pm at The Montessori School of Northampton starting September 17, 2019, and running for 15 weeks through MLK day (no meetings on school holidays). Cost: $225. For older kids who want a challenge, Nerissa offers Focus Chorus, a four-part harmony group for ages 11-16. Meetings are Tuesday evenings from 7:15-8:15pm in Little Blue Studio in Northampton.
