Unveiling the Unseen: Exploring the Micro World with Cameras and Microscopes

Much of the world is hidden from view, moving too fast, too small, or too slowly to notice. Microscopes and film help us see what we often miss. Exploring the unseen invites new perspectives on life and sparks questions about what future tools might reveal.

There is much which is imperceptible to the human eye, either because it moves too fast, too slow, too small, or is all-encompassing. We can unveil this unseen world to us through the use of film and microscopes. Using tools to help us see a world that exists right before us is a fascinating experience. What else might we not be able to see or detect yet someday be able to with the invention of new tools and resources? How does perceiving an “unseen world” contribute to our perspectives on life, and how might it impact our way of being in the world? In today’s self-directed learning module, we explore the idea of what we can see through cameras, film, and electron microscopes. This prompts us to consider what we may be overlooking, even though it is right in front of our eyes!
