Yoga Sanctuary has two week-long programs for kids this summer! Yoga Monkey Kids (ages 6–10) weaves yoga and creative movement, mythic storytelling, creative crafts, and games into one fun and enchanting week! Play Practice: Exploring Yoga & Theater (ages 10–13) includes yoga techniques, theater games, and creative exercises designed to unleash each student’s unique expression, as well as foster dynamic group creation. Perform under the stars on an aerial park, zipline, mountaintop at Berkshire East, ensemble and theatergoers reach by chairlift! Help create their 2022 spectacle “Much Ado About Nothing” guest directed by Knighthorse Theatre—”our mission is to make Shakespeare cool again”—no prior experience required. Performing Arts Camp at Stoneleigh-Burnham School (SBS) in Greenfield is a camp for ages 10-16 interested in theater, voice, and dance! Performing arts is a great way for students to investigate the world around them and cultivate meaning in their lives. At SBS, performing arts classes are community-oriented, nonhierarchical, body-positive, and culturally relevant. Students will spend time learning and rehearsing a fun program of choral music, musical theater, and dance through participation in the performing arts camp. Students will have the opportunity to learn about vocal technique and health, work on acting and emoting, and focus on dance for musical theater. Participants build stick houses on the Pocumtuck Ridge, and choose workshops including art, singing, dance, hikes, writing, games, and story-building. Sarah Pirtle, a national leader in peace education, co-directs with Melanie Meier. The inspiring staff includes four mothers and ten trained teen staff. Camp ratio is one staff member for every two campers to offer individualized support and give a strong sense of belonging and social safety. They teach how to talk things out. Commonwealth Shakespeare Company’s Stage2
Community performances: May 7 at 2pm & 7pm, and May 14 at 7pm.

A Midsummer Night’s Dream is one of Shakespeare’s most fanciful and enchanting comedies, telling the tale of four bewitched lovers as they reckon with jealousy, desperation, and the complications of true love. Commonwealth Shakespeare Company’s Stage2 takes up residence at the Strand Theatre in Dorchester to present a 90-minute production of this classic comedy. A Midsummer Night’s Dream will perform 3 open/public community performances: May 7, 2022, at 2pm & 7pm, and May 14, 2022, at 7pm. Tickets are available at commshakes.org. Student Matinee performances will also be available for student groups from May 5-13. Learn about best practices in nature-based early childhood education!

In Bloom in Western Mass, Saturday, May 14, 2022, Hitchcock Center for the Environment, is a full day conference for educators and parents of preschool–third grade students. The workshop sessions provide best practices in nature-based early childhood education, cover relevant topics, and take you outside to experience firsthand learning. The morning keynote speaker, Ayana Verdi, founder, and director of Verdi EcoSchool, Melbourne, Florida, will address Cultivating Connection: Using the Community-as-Campus to Build Immersive Learning Experiences for Young Children. The afternoon plenary features Anne Stires of Alna, Maine. Anne will speak on Re-imagining and Co-Creating Change: How a professional learning community (PLC) for Maine administrators is implementing nature-based change in PreK–8 schools. Presented by Antioch University New England in Keene, NH. Learn at Morse Hill is an outdoor elementary homeschool program on 85 acres in Shutesbury, MA. As this fully outdoor program plans for its third year of creating hands-on learning experiences under the beautiful hemlocks of Morse Hill, campus tours are now available and filling up quickly! Students enjoy a cozy yurt for warming in the colder months and build resiliency through Morse Hill adventure experiences, including canoeing, hiking, climbing, and a ropes course. Berkshire Music School’s Adventures in Music is designed for young music lovers ages 5-9, giving your budding musician a solid foundation in making music in a fun, engaging atmosphere. The workshop sessions provide best practices in nature-based early childhood education, cover relevant topics, and take you outside to experience firsthand learning. The morning keynote speaker, Ayana Verdi, founder, and director of Verdi EcoSchool, Melbourne, Florida, will address Cultivating Connection: Using the Community-as-Campus to Build Immersive Learning Experiences for Young Children. The afternoon plenary features Anne Stires of Alna, Maine. Anne will speak on Re-imagining and Co-Creating Change: How a professional learning community (PLC) for Maine administrators is implementing nature-based change in PreK–8 schools. Presented by Antioch University New England in Keene, NH. Learn at Morse Hill is an outdoor elementary homeschool program on 85 acres in Shutesbury, MA. As this fully outdoor program plans for its third year of creating hands-on learning experiences under the beautiful hemlocks of Morse Hill, campus tours are now available and filling up quickly! Students enjoy a cozy yurt for warming in the colder months and build resiliency through Morse Hill adventure experiences, including canoeing, hiking, climbing, and a ropes course. Katherine Dines (Hunk-Ta-Bunk-Ta Music) and James Coffey (Bluevision Music) have worked together for several years. In 2020, our two guest DJs decided on an Earth Day theme and hoped it would be a good fit for listeners during a global pandemic and far into the future. The songs they collected encourage everyone to continue making positive changes and spread happiness, harmony, love, peace, hope, and strength worldwide.

The Strategic Planning Initiative for Families and Youth (SPIFFY) is based out of the Collaborative for Educational Services (CES) in Northampton, MA. SPIFFY is a youth substance misuse prevention coalition serving all of Hampshire County. SPIFFY wants to hear firsthand from parents of middle and high school students about what they’re noticing regarding teen substance use and mental health. The Recovery Theatre in Charlemont, MA, is a performing and circus arts experience for young people overcoming trauma, addiction, anxiety, depression, and other behavioral health challenges. This pre-workshop 5-day intensive is for any teen living with circumstances that present barriers to becoming their fullest selves. Their innovative strength-based, holistic model—they integrate therapeutic horseback riding, circus silks, trapeze, ziplines, white water rafting, aerial park, and the gorgeous natural landscape of West County—takes into account adolescents developing endocrine and nervous systems, incorporates families, social supports and emphasizes peer interactions. The Strategic Planning Initiative for Families and Youth (SPIFFY) is based out of the Collaborative for Educational Services (CES) in Northampton, MA. SPIFFY is a youth substance misuse prevention coalition serving all of Hampshire County. SPIFFY wants to hear firsthand from parents of middle and high school students about what they’re noticing regarding teen substance use and mental health. The Recovery Theatre in Charlemont, MA, is a performing and circus arts experience for young people overcoming trauma, addiction, anxiety, depression, and other behavioral health challenges. This pre-workshop 5-day intensive is for any teen living with circumstances that present barriers to becoming their fullest selves. Autism Connections’ 31st Annual Autism Conference (virtual) on April 28 includes speakers, exhibitors, and breakout sessions on various topics of interest to people with autism, parents, caregivers, education agency, and education professionals. The two keynote speakers are Alix Generous, an #ActuallyAutistic advocate for advancing mental health reform and institutional treatment of autistic people, and Jed Baker, Ph.D., director of the Social Skills Training Project, an organization serving individuals with autism and social communication problems. Registration for parents/caregivers/people with autism is $50, and for agency professionals and educators, $100. Registrants will have access to the entire recorded conference until 7/29/22.

Autism Connections’ 31st Annual Autism Conference (virtual) on April 28 includes speakers, exhibitors, and breakout sessions on various topics of interest to people with autism, parents, caregivers, education agency, and education professionals. The two keynote speakers are Alix Generous, an #ActuallyAutistic advocate for advancing mental health reform and institutional treatment of autistic people, and Jed Baker, Ph.D., director of the Social Skills Training Project, an organization serving individuals with autism and social communication problems. Registration for parents/caregivers/people with autism is $50, and for agency professionals and educators, $100. Registrants will have access to the entire recorded conference until 7/29/22. 

The Institute for the Musical Art’s (IMA) residential music programs give girls access to top-notch facilities & instruments, veteran professional musicians & teachers, and musical exploration & collaboration. Explore Rock ‘n Roll (June 29-July3) offers girls 9-12 opportunities to explore instruments, to begin writing songs, and to participate in a concert. Teen Performance Program (Jul 8-17) offers girls 13-19 an opportunity to speak their truth through the medium of rock ‘n roll, gain confidence in performance abilities, improve musicianship, and develop collaborative leadership skills. Studio Recording, Engineering & Production (Aug 4-14) offers a hands-on studio recording seminar for women 16-22 who are ready to record their work and/or interested in engineering and producing. Living Rivers School students assist world-renowned river fish expert Dr. Boyd Kynard as he completes his second year of small fish habitat- and sea lamprey- data collection. He concludes three studies to determine the extent & quality of the Connecticut River fish habitat between the Holyoke & Turners Falls dams. Living Rivers School students are credited by name for their service in reports Dr. Kynard publishes in juried academic journals. They are invited to share their experience & findings with their schools & communities. This is a rare opportunity for students to get real conservation biology research experience & nurtured as future environmental leaders. All aboard for the Easter Eggspress at the Connecticut Trolley MuseumApril 9-10 & 15-16 from 10am-4pm. A great opportunity to visit the Easter bunny while learning about transportation & local history!
