Week of the Young Child: Community Events Across Northampton, Florence & Hadley

What can a week of play, stories, movement, and shared community experiences reveal about how young children learn? During the Week of the Young Child, families are invited to enjoy a wide range of free early childhood development events across Northampton, Florence, and Hadley. From storytimes and nature walks to music, art, and hands-on STEM activities, each gathering offers a chance to observe how young children build language, coordination, social awareness, and curiosity through play and connection. Events take place in familiar community spaces like libraries, parks, museums, and local organizations, creating accessible entry points for families to participate at their own pace. Whether attending a single program or exploring multiple days, families can use these experiences to notice their child’s interests, follow their questions, and deepen their understanding of how community-based learning can take place at local libraries, outdoor spaces, and local businesses.
