School Vacation Week: Help Stock Trout with MassWildlife

What does it mean to care for rivers and the life within them? During school vacation week, families are invited to join MassWildlife in stocking trout, offering a hands-on look at how people actively shape local ecosystems. Each spring, hundreds of thousands of hatchery-raised brook, brown, rainbow, and tiger trout are released into waterways across the state, creating opportunities for fishing and outdoor recreation while also raising questions about how best to care for native species and river health. Participating offers a chance to explore these ideas through direct experience.

  • April 21 @ 11am: Lake Wyola, Shutesbury, MA
  • April 22 @ 11am: Hampton Ponds, Westfield, MA
  • April 22 @ 12:30pm: Onota Lake, Pittsfield, MA
  • April 23 @ 11am: Chicopee Reservoir, Chicopee, MA

If you’re unable to attend a scheduled stocking, MassWildlife provides daily updates on stocked locations, allowing you to continue the experience with a family fishing trip and further observation of local rivers and streams: www.mass.gov/info-details/trout-stocking-report
