This close-up image shows the front of a bright red Boston fire truck, labeled "LAD 24" in bold yellow and red letters. The vehicle features shiny chrome details, a metal grille, and multiple headlights. The number "24" is prominently displayed on the side, and the words "BOSTON" are printed above the windshield. The polished surface reflects the surrounding scene, highlighting the truck’s readiness and strength.

Touch-a-Truck

Do you know the difference between a fire engine and a fire truck? Central Chevrolet invites kids and families to find out as they climb into the driver’s seat of fire trucks, ambulances, police cruisers, utility rigs, and more. Exploring the inner workings of these vehicles supports interdisciplinary learning across subjects such as engineering, civics, safety science, transportation, and communication. From observing control panels to asking questions about emergency tools and public service roles, children can talk directly with workers and gather information firsthand. This type of inquiry builds critical thinking by encouraging them to compare, analyze, and make connections between what they see and how it works. It also supports place-based learning by grounding their discoveries in the context of their own community.

If you had to design a new emergency vehicle for your town, what features would it need? Think about what problems it would solve, who would use it, and what tools or equipment it should carry. How would your design help people work quickly and safely?
