The Milky Way stretches across a star-filled night sky above a silhouette of tall pine trees, with a faint glow on the horizon.

Stars Over Springfield

Why does Orion rise in winter while other constellations appear months later? An evening astronomy program at the Springfield Museums explores how Earth’s tilt and orbit shape the night sky through the year. A short expert talk, hands-on demonstrations, and a planetarium show using both the historic Korkosz starball and a new Zeiss projector explain seasonal star patterns. Stargazing in the rooftop observatory connects those ideas to real views overhead. – Recommended for ages 8 and up. Registration is required.
