Annual Pansy Planting Day

It’s that time again at the Chesterfield Public Library, when tables fill up with pots, pansies, and the kind of quiet chatter that comes from people working side by side. Bring your family, pick out a pot, and get your hands a little dirty. You might leave with a cheerful plant for your windowsill and a few new connections, too.

Pansies are easy to recognize and are popular edible flowers. They add gentle color and a mild taste to both your garden and your meals. You can use their fresh blooms to decorate salads, desserts, or drinks. They work best in simple dishes where their shape and color are easy to see. The Royal Horticultural Society recommends adding pansies to fruit salads or setting them in jelly. However, always make sure the flowers are safe to eat and have not been treated with harmful chemicals.
