Evening Paddle on the Housatonic River
An evening paddle on the Housatonic River offers an experiential opportunity to observe how wetland habitats support biodiversity during the transition from day to night. Observing animals at dusk encourages quiet attention and builds skills in wildlife tracking, such as listening for bird calls or spotting ripples and movement along the shoreline. Participants can learn about ecology through the lens of riparian ecosystems, noticing how plants along the banks, slow-moving water, and animals respond to one another as the light fades. Birds begin to settle while nocturnal animals like beavers become more active, leaving us to wonder what stories the river holds after dark. – Preregistration Required.
