Intro to Fly Tying with MassWildlife’s Jim Lagacy

Discover the craft behind fly fishing in this free, three-hour beginner workshop for ages 15 and up with Jim Lagacy, where you’ll learn how to use simple materials to create fishing flies that imitate aquatic insects, gain insight into river ecosystems and seasonal rhythms, explore basic tools and patterns, and develop self-reliance by making your own gear; all tools and materials are provided, but space is limited and registration is required.

Self-Directed Learning

Did you know … Early artificial flies were simple hooks dressed with feathers or wool to mimic insects, allowing anglers to tempt fish feeding at the surface of rivers and streams.
