Greenfield’s 104th Annual Winter Carnival
Early February transforms downtown Greenfield into a vibrant winter classroom during the Greenfield Winter Festival, February 6–8. Families can engage in Literary Quote Walks at the Library, where children and parents explore famous quotes while discussing authors, themes, and historical context. The Cardboard Sled Runs invite young engineers to design and build sleds, exploring friction, gravity, and engineering principles in action. Culinary curiosity is sparked at the Chili Cook-Off, where participants experiment with recipes, measurements, fractions, and taste testing while considering cultural variations in cuisine. Ice carvings along city streets offer a hands-on look at states of matter, temperature effects, and the science of freezing and melting. Throughout the weekend, public spaces become classrooms, as families observe how community events transform environments and foster civic engagement, creativity, and inquiry in winter settings.
