Family Contra & Square Dance
Did you know contra dancing began with English country dances in the 17th century and took root in early American communities? In New England, it has continued as a social tradition, carried forward in town halls and local gatherings.
Bring the whole family for an evening of traditional New England contra dancing where music, movement, and community create a fun learning experience. This beginner and family-friendly event is open to all ages, and a live caller will teach each dance step by step, from easy circles to energetic partner swings, so everyone can join in. All dances taught by caller Steve Howland. Music by Eric Buddington, Annika Amstutz, Becky Hollingsworth and friends.
Contra dance is a great way to bring people of all ages together, build listening and teamwork skills, and enjoy local culture with live music and dancing.
