Eco-Printing with Plants

Eco-printing uses leaves and flowers to create art while opening the door to interdisciplinary learning. As plant materials are arranged on fiber and exposed to heat and pressure, their natural pigments are released, creating patterns shaped by the plants themselves. This process can spark curiosity in botany, chemistry, ecology, and art history. Leaf shapes, veins, tannins, and seasonal changes in plant pigmentation all appear in the final colors and designs. Eco-printing also connects to long traditions such as natural dyeing, botanical illustration, textile arts, and early photography. It invites participants to see plants as more than living things. They become storytellers, color-makers, and keepers of local history.
