Bunraku Puppetry Workshop
Bunraku puppets are large, highly detailed traditional puppets used in Japanese puppet theater. This art form dates back to the 17th century and is considered one of Japan’s most refined theatrical traditions. In Bunraku, the puppeteers wear black and stand in plain sight, but after a while, you hardly notice them. This visual metaphor can awaken the realization that our lives are also animated by unseen forces. Even though you see the puppeteers, your brain quickly forgets them. In this workshop, participants ages 10+ will learn a bit about Bunraku puppets, use simple materials to build their own, and perform them with others. – Registration required.
