Beneficial Bats with Mass Audubon
Bats are often misunderstood, yet they play an essential role in keeping ecosystems balanced and supporting human health by controlling insect populations. Join Mass Audubon at Edith Wharton’s historic Berkshires estate to look and listen for bats, the only mammals capable of true flight, as well as other nocturnal wildlife in the surrounding forests, meadows, and wetlands. If conditions allow, participants will try out a special bat-detecting tool to hear echolocation in action. This program encourages curiosity in animal behavior, ecology, and conservation while offering a deeper appreciation for these remarkable nighttime creatures.
