Bike Riding Along the Ashuwillticook Rail Trail
Explore the Ashuwillticook Rail Trail, a former railroad corridor now transformed into a 12.7-mile paved path through the Hoosic River valley between Adams, Lanesborough, Cheshire, and Pittsfield. The name “Ashuwillticook” comes from a Native American term meaning “pleasant river in between the hills.” Along the way, interpretive signs highlight natural and cultural history, from wetland wildlife at Cheshire Reservoir to mill buildings dating back to the Appalachian era. Watch for bald eagles, turtles, and migrating birds as you follow the trail’s gentle grade. Picnic areas offer space to pause and reflect on how this shared corridor connects people, wildlife, and place. – Open dawn to dusk.
