Haunted Building and Tours Support Curiosity, and Learning!

Hunt for ghosts at Ventfort Hall in Lenox, MA.

Towns across Western Massachusetts have tales of haunted historic buildings, ghost sightings, and supernatural suspicions that lead people to wonder whether a place is haunted or not.  Haunted tales are sometimes rooted in actual events or historical accounts from people of the past, and can add to the mystery and curiosity of a place. In the Berkshires this haunted season, three events support learning about local history through the lens of hauntings and paranormal tours:

Thursday, October 27, 2016. 6:30pm-9:30pm ♦ Supernatural stories of ghosts or witches sometimes stem from real historical events, and can add to our understanding of our communities. New England is popular fall destination, the perfect time and place to explore cemeteries and other historic spaces. Naumkeag will be offering a haunted house adventure in their carriage house, meant to thrill visitors through spooky, scary sights. 413-298-3239. 5 Prospect Hill. Stockbridge, MA. Fridays in October, as well as Saturday October 29, and Monday, October 31, 2016. 5:45pm and 7pm ♦ Besides dressing up in costume, carving pumpkins and eating sweets, there are lots of ways to celebrate Halloween. Some celebrations may even be educational, as well as entertaining. “Ghost tours” can be combined with real historic learning. The Mount, once a home to writers such as Edith Whatron, as well as actors, wealthy families, hardworking servants, and teenage girls, will be providing ghost tours. The 90-minute ghost tour starts at the Stable and ends at the Main House. Please arrive 15 minutes early. Please note that this tour is not suitable for wheelchairs and includes about a half-mile walk with some steep areas. Tickets must be purchased in advance. 413-551-5111. 2 Plunkett Street. Lenox, MA. Saturday, October 29, 2016 7pm-12am. ♦ Do you believe in ghosts? Come learn about them from an expert paranormal researcher. Josh Mantello is the founder of Berkshire Paranormal, and the Paranormal Events Coordinator to the Haunted Houghton Mansion. He will be giving a presentation and conducting a ghost hunt at Ventfort Hall. Reservations are limited. 413-637-3206. 104 Walker Street. Lenox, MA. ($$)
