5pm-7:30pm ♦ Fall and Halloween celebrations don’t have to be scary. You and your family can enjoy a guided walk of the Pumpkin Trail at Naumkeag, and learn about various woodland creatures who reside there. Costumes are encouraged and reservations are recommended. Guided walks will take place every 15 minutes and the event will occur rain or shine.

5:30pm-8pm ♦ Halloween is a unique holiday in our culture, in the sense that it is highly focused on children. Although you can celebrate Halloween throughout your life, trick-or-treating and the consumption of sugary treats are primarily children’s activities. Families are invited to a not-so-spooky Halloween Party for young kids at Red Gate Farm. All are welcome, though the target age group is about 2-12. Enjoy haunted hay rides, pumpkin carving, cider pressing, and costumes.

Halloween parades similarly get people out into town. The Rag Shag Parade, hosted by Easthampton Parks and Recreation, invites families to dress in costume for a walk beginning at the Maple Street School and ending at Easthampton Savings Bank.

5:45pm and 7pm ♦ Besides dressing up in costume, carving pumpkins and eating sweets, there are lots of ways to celebrate Halloween. Some celebrations may even be educational, as well as entertaining. “Ghost tours” can be combined with real historic learning. The Mount, once a home to writers such as Edith Whatron, as well as actors, wealthy families, hardworking servants, and teenage girls, will be providing ghost tours on Fridays in October, as well as Saturdays October 22 and 29, and on the night of Halloween (Monday October 31). The 90-minute ghost tour starts at the Stable and ends at the Main House. Please arrive 15 minutes early. Please note that this tour is not suitable for wheelchairs and includes about a half-mile walk with some steep areas. Tickets must be purchased in advance.

6pm ♦ Pumpkin carving is an all ages activity which allows for the whole family to flex their creativity and learn about the seasons. Younger kids can decorate their pumpkins with markers rather than by carving. If you want to show off your pumpkin carving skills, you can participate in the 6th annual Pumpkin Walk-About. Drop off your Jack O’ Lantern at the Stockbridge Library between 5:00 and 6:00 p.m. You can celebrate Halloween with a parade and party, including spooky stories. Check out the pumpkins carved by your neighbors and local business members.

5-8pm ♦ Florence’s annual Halloween celebration for kids includes a costume contest and a parade. This is a fun way for families to get together and show off their costumes! The Rag Shag Parade will start from Trinity Row Park on the corner of Main & South Main Street. Route 9 will be closed at this time for the parade to March to the Florence Civic and Business Center where kids can pick up a goody bag.
