Hilltown Families on Mass Appeal:
Foliage, Pumpkins & Hauntings
Hilltown Families and Mass Appeal (a weekday, hour-long lifestyle program on NBC) have teamed up to offer a live monthly segment on WWLP 22News! Each month, Hilltown Families’ Founder & Executive Director, Sienna Wildfield, joins Mass Appeal hosts to talk about ways to engage in your community while supporting the interests and education of your children (and yourselves!).
This monthly segment continued on Monday, September 26, 2016. This month Sienna and Seth talked about fall foliage, pumpkins and haunted history featured in the October section of Learning Ahead: Cultural Itinerary for Western MA:

Habitat/Fall Foliage
In Western Massachusetts we are so fortunate to have easy access to nature in our communities through local trails, nature preserves, and forests. This diversity of options inspires naturalists and conservation-minded enthusiasts to lead guided walks, hikes, and river paddling trips, teaching the richness of our local landscapes and biodiversity. Find our about Guided & Self-Guided Hikes and Vistas in our Sept/Oct Season edition of Learning Ahead: Cultural Itinerary for Western MA.
Harvest/Pumpkins
There are a myriad uses for pumpkins! One of America’s oldest native crops, modern day uses include carving as ornaments for Halloween, prepared as pies, and highlighted as a main attraction in agricultural fairs (i.e., largest pumpkin contests) and fall festivals (i.e., pumpkin roll & pumpkin games). Needless to say, pumpkins are an integrated part of our fall traditions in Western Massachusetts. Find out about PYO pumpkins, culinary arts & community pumpkin events in our Sept/Oct Season edition of Learning Ahead: Cultural Itinerary for Western MA.
History/Halloween
Towns across Western Massachusetts have tales of haunted historic buildings, ghost sightings, and supernatural suspicions that lead people to wonder whether a place is haunted or not. Haunted tales are sometimes rooted in actual events or historical accounts from people of the past, and can add to the lore of a place. Find out about Cemetery Tours and Local Hauntings in our Sept/Oct Season edition of Learning Ahead: Cultural Itinerary for Western MA.
Mass Appeal is a live weekday program that airs at 11am on 22News (Springfield, MA). Our next visit to the Mass Appeal studios will be November 1st, 2016!
