Service-Based Learning with Hilltown Families
Volunteering together as a family encourages quality time, increases communication, and provides opportunities for family members to be role models. In partnership with Hilltown Families, the Food Bank of Western Massachusetts invites families to attend a Family Volunteer Day on Saturday, December 5, 9-11am, to help sort food, take part in educational activities, and learn how to take action to help fight hunger. This month’s theme is “Holidays.” Families may stay for all or some of the event. Rumpus! — Saturday, Dec. 5th, 10am-2pm: The Center School’s Admissions Open House and Enchanted Indoor Forest. All are welcome to the Center School campus for the annual Rumpus Open House and Yggdrasil Enchanted Indoor Forest. All classrooms will be open and teachers will be leading creative, nature-based, arts activities. Come explore Yggdrasil–the mighty oak tree from Norse mythology which houses 9 magical realms: spirit animal cave, transfiguration, archery, forest photoscape, dragon academy and more. Sweet, warm and savory foods will be available for purchase. Meet teachers, parents and students and learn about what makes the Center School special. All activities are free and open to the public. Winter Fair on Saturday, December 5 from 10am-3pm at the Hilltown Cooperative Charter Public School, 1 Industrial Way, Easthampton. The Winter Fair at HCCPS is a fun and festive annual event which includes craft and gift-making for all ages, musical performances by the school chorus, a comprehensive selection of Scholastic books for sale and delicious homemade food. Come with your children and create gifts for family and friends, then stay for performances and some homemade treats! There is something for everyone at the Hilltown Winter Fair. Welcome Yule: A Midwinter Celebration marks the return of the light with a family show of music, dance, song and story to drive the dark away. Join revelers in a seaside village as they celebrate the return of their fisher folk at the winter solstice. Nautical songs and a sailors’ jig add to the seasonal revelries.
