All are welcome to the Center School campus for the annual Rumpus Open House and Yggdrasil Enchanted Indoor Forest. All classrooms will be open and teachers will be leading creative, nature-based, arts activities. Come explore Yggdrasil–the mighty oak tree from Norse mythology which houses 9 magical realms: spirit animal cave, transfiguration, archery, forest photoscape, dragon academy and more. Collective Copies Holiday Open House on Saturday, December 5, 1-5 pm at 71 S. Pleasant St. in Amherst. The public is invited to the festivities! So much more than copies, Collective Copies truly has something for everyone–food, drink, readings, a book sale, and art. The Collective is featuring members of their unique local co-op community. Guests can sample their Equal Exchange coffee and chocolate and other co-op produced treats. Stephanie Kraft will be reading from Emancipated Women at 2pm and author David Bollier will read from his new book Patterns of Commoning at 3pm. Steve Strimer will speak on self-publishing. Winter Fair on Saturday, December 5 from 10am-3pm at the Hilltown Cooperative Charter Public School, 1 Industrial Way, Easthampton. The Winter Fair at HCCPS is a fun and festive annual event which includes craft and gift-making for all ages, musical performances by the school chorus, a comprehensive selection of Scholastic books for sale and delicious homemade food. Originally, the craft of blowing glass was used for utilitarian purposes, like containers, table ware and window glass. Come to the Sunderland Public Library for LEGO Club! The program allows children to explore the wonderful world of LEGOs with other interested children. A different theme is picked each session, and kids can build on that theme or build a creation of their own. Put on your traveling shoes and join the Trustees of Reservations and Hilltown Land Trust for the “Gorge Après Gorge 5K Run and 3 Mile Walk” at the Chesterfield Gorge. Timed 5K race begins at 9:30 am. Unique top finisher awards (knitted hats!) and cookie medals for all participants. Proceeds benefit the Zephyr Rapinchuk Memorial Fund and the Hilltown Land Trust. Individual and family registration fees. The 11th annual three-mile walk (or snowshoe!) along the beautiful wild and scenic Westfield River begins at 11am and is free.
