Big Wiggle Tour Makes Its Valley Stop!
Caterpillar Mobile Inspires Kids To Read
The Very Hungry Caterpillar himself will be gracing the streets of the Pioneer Valley very soon! Following a cross-country tour of libraries and bookstores between California and Massachusetts, a Volkswagen Beetle designed to look just like the iconic children’s book caterpillar will be making its new home at the Eric Carle Museum of Picture Book Art. The new caterpillar-mobile’s arrival will coincide with Very Hungry Caterpillar Day, held on Sunday, March 22nd from 12noon-4pm!
Very Hungry Caterpillar Day is a special celebration at the museum, and honors one of Eric Carle’s most iconic and beloved characters. Families can visit the museum for special storytimes, scavenger hunts, caterpillar- and butterfly-themed art activities, short films, and a visit not only from the caterpillar-mobile, but the caterpillar himself! Kids will also be able to check out the Carle’s new car, and can have their picture taken right from the driver’s seat.
The Very Hungry Caterpillar Day offers families a chance to celebrate a classic book, and to celebrate their love for reading in general. In addition to special activities, the Carle’s galleries will be open for viewing, allowing families to explore wonderful children’s book art – offering an opportunity to examine the ways in which images can tell a story (even when the words aren’t there!). For more information about the event, call the museum at 413-658-1100. Admission to The Very Hungry Caterpillar Day is included in museum admission. The Eric Carle Museum of Picture Book Art is located at 125 West Bay Road in Amherst.
