Celebrated as a national holiday in some countries, International Women’s Day sheds light on women’s role in societies around the world – past and present. On March 8th, communities from all over the world will celebrate International Women’s Day – an event that honors the economic, political, and social achievements past and present, and brings light to the continuing efforts to achieve worldwide gender equality. Recognized as a national holiday in some countries, International Women’s Day presents opportunities not only to celebrate and honor womanhood, but to learn about important women in history and their achievements.

Using online resources, families can explore the meaning of International Women’s Day. Videos showing everything from international political leaders discussing the importance of the holiday to documentary-style looks at women’s lives in many cultures to women’s role in history can help families to learn about the past, present, and future of women’s role in society worldwide.
