Holyoke Codes Empowers Youth with Free Workshops

Holyoke Codes is offering free STEM based youth workshops at the Massachusetts Green High Performance Computing Center in March. These two exciting workshops include Scratch for Girls and Alternative Energy Robotics

Scratch Workshop for Girls
Tuesday, March 17 4:30-6pm

Holyoke Codes is offering an all-girls Scratch workshop, a program that allows you to create interactive games, stories and animations. Scratch helps young people learn skill that are essential for 21st century living, supporting crative thinking, reason systematic reasoning and skills in working collaboratively. Ideal for girls ages 7 and older, instructions are provided with general support and additional challenges for girls wanting to explore Scratch on their own.

Alternative Energy Robotics Workshop
Sunday, March 29 1:30 pm – 4:30 pm

Explore renewable energy sources! Build windmills and solar station with LEGO EV3 and Renewable Energy Kits to learn about solar and wind power. Make connections between their ability to generate power and how that can be used in real life to power vehicles and to bring energy to homes. Participants will investigate the supply, transfer, accumulation, conversion, and consumption of energy through hands-on activities and real-life models.  Open to youth ages 7 and older.

Holyoke Codes encourages and supports diversity in the field of technology, offering free workshops for youth to be involved in coding, robotics, and technology. Workshops are open to the public and focus on community, peer learning, youth mentoring and self-directed learning. Both of the March workshops are limited in space and will held at the Massachusetts Green High Performance Computing Center (100 Bigelow Street) in Holyoke.  All participants must pre-register and youth under 17 must be accompanied by an adult.
