Rainforest Adventure: A Journey of Learning and Discovery at Springfield Museums

The Springfield Museums hosted the ‘Rainforest Adventure’ exhibit from January 25th to May 11th, 2014. The exhibit aimed to create an immersive and educational experience. It welcomed visitors of all ages by exploring the biodiversity of rainforests and the challenges they face.

The exhibit provided interactive experiences such as exploring a gorilla nest and climbing a kapok tree. The visitors were equipped with vests, flashlights, and binoculars to make the experience more engaging. The hands-on approach of the exhibit encouraged families to learn and discover together, making it a unique educational outing. While older children delved into the effects of human impact on rainforest species, younger visitors discovered the diverse flora and fauna and drew parallels to their local ecosystems.

To enhance the learning experience, the museums recommended exploring rainforest-related literature such as field guides or Lynne Cherry’s “The Great Kapok Tree.” These resources aimed to deepen understanding of the interconnectedness of natural environments. The opening day of the exhibit was celebrated with special events, including live animal interactions, a balloon magic show, and engaging sessions with the Roving Scientist.

This interactive exhibit at the Springfield Museums demonstrated a dynamic way of engaging kids in environmental science. It highlighted the importance of rainforests in a fun, accessible manner and inspired a new generation of environmentally conscious individuals.
