Celebration of Speech: Call for Original & Historical Speeches
Mothers and Daughters Invited to Participate and Create Speeches for International Women’s Day

On March 8, 2014, in honor of International Women’s Day, Women’s Voices Worldwide, Inc. will be hosting our second annual “Celebration of Speech” extravaganza. This event brings together women and girls from the community for a day-long performance of historic speech re-enactments of women from around the globe, contemporary original speeches by local women and girls, featured speeches by community leaders, and musical acts.
A voice is a powerful thing – but only if you know how to use it. Women’s Voices Worldwide, Inc. is offering women and girls a chance to explore and exercise this power at the annual Celebration of Speech, held on International Women’s Day – March 8th, 2014. The event, held at the First Churches Sanctuary in Northampton, MA, will include re-enactments of historic speeches made by women from all over the world, musical performances, and, most importantly, original speeches from women and girls from the community.
In addition to offering women a chance to exercise the power of sharing their own words and experiences, the event emphasizes the importance of empowering women. Women and girls ages 8+ are invited to create their own speeches to submit for inclusion in the event. While the organization offers a list of prompts to inspire speakers, these are just a starting point and encompass broad ideas and the common threads of women’s lives, allowing for lots of space for creativity and personalization. Speeches are expected to be between 500-800 words (approximately five minutes) and should be submitted to the organization by December 15th, 2013.
