ABOUT MILKSHAKE
Milkshake began in 2002 as a musical experiment on the part of vocalist Lisa Mathews and guitarist Mikel Gehl , longtime bandmates from Baltimore’s indie rock group Love Riot, who vowed to “grow” their music right along with their own young children. Since then, Milkshake and the band’s legion of fans have been living an exciting, real life, growing up adventure, moving from early childhood through the early elementary years, as the group toured the country and produced several multi-award-winning CDs, a DVD, and a multitude of music videos seen all over the kid-friendly networks. Along the way, as the kids grew and the music grew with them, Milkshake grew from a duo to a six-piece band.
Known for their pop-rock style that fairly crackles with energy, Milkshake indeed has a following of all ages…
The band is familiar to millions of American households through their colorful, energetic music videos, which have been seen on PBS KIDS, NOGGIN/NICK JR., and DISCOVERY KID. Milkshake’s live concerts, described by the Baltimore Sun as “a little like magic,” bring the same happy, rocking energy onstage to fans across the country.
Milkshake has released five Award-winning CDs and a DVD, each chockfull of incredible original music kids can call their own. From 2002’s Happy Songs to 2013’s Got a Minute?, the band’s music perfectly reflects the state of being a kid from babies through tweens. With each CD, the band has grown along – side their kids, and listening to the Milkshake music catalog is like taking a journey through the childhood years.

MASS MoCA’s galleries are open 11am to 5pm every day except Tuesdays. In July and August, the galleries are open seven days a week, 10am to 6pm. Gallery hours are often extended on evenings featuring performing arts events. Gallery admission is $15 for adults, $10 for students, $5 for children 6 to16, and free for children 5 and under. My favorite thing to do is the Chester Christmas party at the railroad station. They have Mrs. and Mr. Clause arrive on a horse drawn carriage, and they greet the kids in the station for the picture, and some light food. We loved it last year, and my kids were on the front page of the country journal with Santa and Mrs. Clause (who really should have first name). Santa even comes around on a firetruck to see the kids if you are on his route later that month to tell the kids he’ll be back. My kids love living here. The other thing we must do is cut down our own Christmas tree at the Christmas tree farm in Russell on the hill across from the Russell Inn. They have hot chocolate and a fire, and the best trees. We love the hilltowns at Christmas time.
We love to go to the Hatfield Luminaria every year. The entire town is lit up with lights and candlelit homes, beautiful music and singing on the town hall steps, a holiday concert in the church, stories in the library, a holiday parade…so much fun for the family.
The solstice celebration at The Roundhouse in Colrain is at the top of my list of things to do during the holiday season. The space is spectacular and becomes filled with wonderful, warm and cheerful people all cozied up together listening to stories and music and enjoying a potluck of delicious treats.
They also ask that guests bring canned goods to be donated to the Franklin County Survival Center.
During intermission we are welcomed to explore the building. My kids loved going up to the top and looking down at the crowd of us.

We are excited for the David Grover concert at Lander Grinspoon Academy on November 17th at 4:00. Early Hanukkah celebration.
We visited Santa at Look Park in Northampton last year and it was truly magical. They have lots of electric trains in winter scenes, an outdoor train ride (for a fee), “elves” who greet you, look for your child’s name on Santa’s “list” and then “call” Santa to see if he is ready to see you. You walk down a walkway lined with themed Christmas trees, and at the end, you are greeted my Mr. and Mrs. Claus and some elves. You can take your own photos. There are free baked goods and other foods/drinks for purchase. You can also drive around the park and look at the lights. Seeing Santa and the indoor trains is free, and totally worth coming from out of town.
