SERVICE LEARNING: Coming up this September, in collaboration with Whole Foods Market in Hadley and Atlas Farm in Deerfield, Hilltown Families invites families to come together on Saturday, September 7th, 2013 from 11am-2pm in Deerfield for a day of community service, gleaning organic vegetables leftover from a recent harvest to donate to the Food Bank. Join us in a service learning opportunity, giving kids a hands-on look at how their food is grown while supporting the food security efforts of the Food Bank of Western MA. 9am-4pm – HIKING: Join the Berkshire Natural Resources Council for a hike up Mt. Greylock, the highest point in Massachusetts.  The peak of Mt. Al-Layaali’s mission is to ‘increase the awareness of Arabic music and culture through concerts, recordings, workshops and lectures and features musicians from four Arab countries; Palestine, Lebanon, Jordan and Morocco’. 12noon-5pm – FUNDRAISER/COMMUNITY SERVICE: Today is the second annual Kane’s Krusade Cookout, a fundraiser for the non-profit.  Kane’s Krusade aims to educate people about misunderstood dogs, like those who are judged solely based on their breed.  They also assist families in caring for their dogs through C.A.R.E. 9:30am-5pm – MUSEUM ADVENTURES: Five dollar admission! August is an especially popular time to visit Old Sturbridge Village because summer activities are in full swing, with daily stagecoach and boat rides, interactive crafts, fishing in the Millpond and traditional games on the Common – old-fashioned “baseball” and tug-of-war, which was called “French and English” in the early 1800s.  In addition, the Village offers all of its signature craft demonstrations, and guests can see the printer, shoemaker, potter, blacksmith and “tinners” at work. OSV has 40 antique buildings, including three water-powered mills and a working farm.
