Shelburne Grange Fair Serves Up Good Old Fashion Fun

Bring the kids to a good old fashion grange fair Shelburne on Saturday, August 25th.  This community events hosts a corn husking competition, hands-on weaving and spinning demos, community BBQ, live music, and displays of traditional country crafts and wares. (FREE)

The 2012 Shelburne Grange Fair has an exciting lineup of entertainment and activities for the whole family. As always, there is no admission charge to attend the Shelburne Grange Fair.

The day begins with a Craft Fair and Flea Market at 8 a.m. Concessions open at 9 a.m., along with the Exhibit Hall, where fairgoers will be able to stroll amongst the fruits of the communities labors, and see thousands of locally crafted items, including: home canning, photography, sewing, flower arrangements, painting,vegetables and more. At 9:30 a.m. it is the public’s chance to participate in “Ah…Shucks!” the corn husking competition.

From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The Masonic Lodge will be conducting a CHIPs Child Identification Program, also at 10 a.m., children’s games, as well as the Pocket Lady, will be prodiving entertainment for the younger crowd. At 10:30 a.m. the Pioneer Valley Gay Men’s Chorus will serenade fairgoers from a repertoire of jazz, Broadway, and folk traditions.

The 61 year old Weavers Guild of Springfield will provide hands-on weaving and spinning demonstrations from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. At noon, one of the oldest, continuously performing military bands in the country, the 177 year old Shelburne Falls Military Band will perform, as fairgoers enjoy another longtime tradition: the Smith Family Famous Chicken BBQ.

The musical entertainment continues at 2 p.m. with Amandla Chorus singing new and old songs of justice, freedom, and peace, from around the world and written locally. At 4 p.m. the Ja’Duke Performers take the stage and will entertain all ages with singing, dancing and acting. Rounding out the 2012 Shelburne Grange Fair is the concluding Auction at 4:30 p.m.  The auction raises money to fund the fair, and at it you are sure to find fresh, local vegetables, baked goods, flowers and other donated award-winning exhibits from the exhibit hall.

The 2012 Shelburne Grange Fair will be held on Saturday, August 25, 2012 at Fellowship Hall, 17 Little Mohawk Road, Shelburne, Massachusetts.  In addition to an Exhibit Hall displaying prize winning baked goods, fresh vegetables, flowers, photography and more, there is family musical entertainment and hands-on activities and food available through the day.
