The old saying that it takes a village to raise a child is certainly true, and It Takes a Village, a community volunteer service helping families with new children, helps bring the village straight to families.

The group serves greater Brattleboro and the Hilltowns of Western MA, and volunteers are paired with families who they visit for 2 hours a week for the first three months of  family’s journey with a new child.  Volunteers can help cook meals, take care of household chores, spend time with older children, among other ways of participating.

There will be a volunteer training for Hilltowns volunteers on Sunday, April 22nd, 2012, from 11am-2pm.  Adults can learn about the program, as well as tips and strategies for helping the families they will be paired with.  The training will take place at St. John’s House, located at the corner of Route 116 and Baptist Corner Road in Ashfield.  For more information, contact Anna Westley at 413-634-5431.
