Saturday, January 21st from 10am-5pm – MUSEUM ADVENTURE/ORNITHOLOGY: The Berkshire Museum is opening a new exhibit, “Taking Flight: Audubon and the World of Birds.” The exhibit teaches visitors about John James Audubon and his work, particularly, “The Birds of America,” a book filled with beautiful illustrations and information on the birds that populate our country.  The exhibit showcases artwork from the book along with specimens of each type of bird!  Today, visitors can take part in special opening day activities, including arts and crafts projects (you can make a bird house!), presentations on Audubon’s work, and more!  413-443-7171.  39 South Street.  Pittsfield, MA.  ($)

PARENT WORKSHOP: The Gateway Family Center will be hosting a five-week workshop series on children’s social and emotional development and ways to encourage positive growth.  Beginning on Tuesday, January 17th, the free series will offer parents information on and strategies for teaching children to handle disappointing situations, regulate their emotions, and practice self control and discipline.  Titled, “Positive Solutions For Families,” the series is led by Marcella Simpson and will take place from 9:30-11:30am.  Registration is required, and childcare is available.  To register, call 413-667-2203.  (FREE)

Department of Housing and Community  Development, the Hilltown Community Health Centers and the Cummington Family Center will be offering a free “CPR for Family and Friends” class on  Saturday, Jan 28 from 9:30-11:30am at the Cummington Community House. Led by Ed Vivier, Middletown EMT, the class will cover: CPR for  infants, children, and adults; how to protect your family from accidents; and  how to respond in emergencies. This course is designed by the American  Heart Association for people with no CPR experience. It does not include a test or certification, but rather focuses on preparing you to help your family and  friends in an emergency.
