ABOUT THE NIELDS
Nerissa and Katryna Nields grew up singing folk songs in the kitchen and in the back seat of the family car. Katryna learned to sing melody with their father, eventually making her an ideal front person for the band. Nerissa, on the other hand, tackled the harmonies; with that skill, she provided a natural counterpoint to her sister’s vibrant lead. As a duo, the sisters have toured nationally for years and been the darlings of the coffeehouse/festival scene, with tunes ranging from off-the-hook idiosyncratic to kicking to heartbreaking. They were a part of Lillith Fair, and have shared the stage with Natalie Merchant, Suzanne Vega, Sarah McLaughlin, Dar Williams, The Indigo Girls, James Taylor, Joan Baez, the Band, 10,000 Maniacs, Billy Bragg, Dan Zanes and countless others, all of whom informed and enhanced their musical repertoire.
A most recent influence on their music is children. “Having children has brought us back to our roots in a powerful way,” says Nerissa. “I’m much more drawn to the honesty of folk music, the simplicity of it. My kids love singing songs from Sister Holler. And I love how, when we sing these ‘Nerissa’ songs in concerts, everybody sings along, even though it’s the first time they’ve heard them. They’re songs that really invite the listener into the music making process.” Find more information about the band at www.nields.com.

I have been looking toward Hilltown families’ website with surprise and happiness because it never lets us down. A Huge THANK YOU to you!
I wouldn’t know where else to go for any information on what to do with my family!
I often share ideas with my students’ parents and use them for my own family. I always check on Friday for the weekend ideas.
Hilltown Families is my first stop for an interesting and fun weekend with my 2 seven-year olds. It is our saving grace to have a kid-friendly destination on a Saturday morning, and Hilltown Families comes through for us in spades! We especially love it being new to the Valley (from Boston) and don’t know up from down out here! Concerts are our favorites in the winter.
I always consult Hilltown Families first to find out the groovy family-friendly happenings going on in the area. Your site is user-friendly and so much more informative than any other local website. Especially for those of us with kiddies!!!

Hilltown Families is the site to go to for HEALTHY family fun — healthy for mind, body and spirit. Hello friends who already chimed in on this ticket opp! Hope to see you at the concert — we love the Nields, their music and their role model-ing of healthy fun sister-ly joy!
We love Hilltown Families. We check it weekly to find out about all kinds of amazing things to do with kids here in the Pioneer Valley.
Hilltown families is the best local connection to western mass events for families. I’m always telling friends.
Hilltown Families reminds me to leave the dishes in the sink, let the dirty laundry sit for another day and instead enjoy the weekend with my family. So far our adventures inspired by Hilltown Families have included strawberry picking, a Mr. G concert, and a Paintbox Theater performance.
We just signed up for Hilltown Families, but I am so excited about all of the opportunities I have found here! Can’t wait to be able to go to some of the events!
I wouldn’t be aware of many events going on in the area of it wasn’t for Hilltown Families. It doesn’t feel so isolating living out in the hills when there’s a resource to keep us informed.
Hilltown families is the website I visit most often each week to see what fun and fabulous events to do with my fun and fabulous daughter! It’s been an invaluable resource for us.
Hilltown families is the first place we check when looking for something to do with the kids!
I, too, have learned of several events like the holiday night in Amherst and Nutcracker in Northampton last month. My husband also took classes with the Nields last summer, and we appreciate hearing about their concerts. We would love to go!
Every thursday night after my son goes to sleep I take some time to read the Hilltown Families weekly email – there is always at least 2 events I want to go to and reading what other community members write and share is always fascinating. I appreciate this resource so much!
I love Hilltown Families, because here I hear about many events that I wouldn’t know about otherwise. I’ve also used the search function and parent recommendations to find resources, like a pediatric dentist and an organic pick-your-own strawberry farm. Thank you! (and thanks for the chance to win!)
I learned about Hilltown Families from a friend who kept posting cool stuff to do (like concerts by the Nields and Elizabeth Mitchell). I introduced my younger daughter to the Nields through this concert series two years ago—probably time to introduce my younger daughter this year.
I love finding out about music and arts performances in the area!
