8 Years of Post-Thanksgiving Community Runs & Family Walks
In the Woods or On the Streets
Get the Family Outside Post-Thanksgiving
During the post-Thanksgiving weekends, there are a couple of opportunities to get outdoors, exercise, and support your community as a family!
Sunday, November 27th, 2011
The first event is the 8th Annual Gorge Apres Gorge, a 5k trail run and family fun walk that takes place at the beautiful Chesterfield Gorge, a Trustees of Reservation property in West Chesterfield, the first Sunday every year following your Thanksgiving Day gorge! Participants can run (or walk) along the Westfield River alongside family, friends and community members, and if you’re fast enough you could win a prize from local artists. Awards to kids who finish the family fun walk. Post-5K/family fun walk, there will be a potluck- bring delicious food to share, and enjoy on a smorgasbord of neighbor-made treats! There will be tea, cocoa, and coffee from Bread Euphoria. Get active! Start a new family tradition! The 5k Trail Run ($) begins at 9am. Family Fun Walk at 11am (free).
Sunday, December 4th, 2011
The second event is the 8th Annual Hot Chocolate Run in Northampton. The event benefits Safe Passage, an organization that offers support and resources for victims of domestic violence. There is a 5k run as well as a 2 mile walk, and post-race there will be a gigantic celebration including awesome live music and, of course, hot chocolate! By participating, your family will support an important community resource, exercise their turkey-and-stuffing filled bodies, and have fun! ($)
