FUNDRAISER: Amherst-based group MotherWoman, which works to support and empower mothers, is holding their annual fundraising breakfast on Friday, October 28th at the Log Cabin in Holyoke.  MotherWoman supports mothers in breaking unrealistic mothering stereotypes/expectations and provides support and inspiration for mothers working to combat the isolation and lack of support for mothers that is often found within communities.  There is no charge to attend the breakfast- it is an event to inspire mothers as much as it is a fundraiser.  Attendees can donate any amount they are comfortable with.  The event takes place from 8:30-9:30am.  For more information, visit www.motherwoman.org.

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY: Help support The Food Bank of Western MA. Food and fund drives organized by community groups, schools, and local businesses help fill The Food Bank’s warehouse and enable them to dedicate more resources towards their mission. Organizing a food drive or other fundraising event for The Food Bank can make a major impact in your community. 9:30am – LOCAL HISTORY: During the French and Indian War during the 1750’s, the town of Colrain built four forts in order to protect themselves from the threat of attack.  As part of the celebration of the town’s 250th anniversary, you can learn all about the forts, as well as palisaded block houses and fortified farmhouses, that were built and how they were manned and maintained.  The wars were an important part of the town’s earliest history!
