ABOUT All Together Singing in the Kitchen
Sisters Nerissa & Katryna Nields, have been performing as a folk-rock/singer-songwriter act known as The Nields for 20 years now. They have toured North America and have 15 CDs released into the world on major labels, indie labels and our own labels. They love making music for audiences and continue to do that, but in recent years, realized their life’s mission is really about teaching people how to make their own music. Several years ago, after adding four kids to their families, they began releasing kids/family CDs and a DVD. They now teach popular HooteNanny classes for toddlers/preschoolers in Western MA, and this book sprang from that program. This book is meant to show every parent (or grandparent) that they do have musical abilities to share with the children in their lives. It’s a lovely, empowering book and Nerissa & Katryna have a lifetime of experience to share.
In All Together Singing in the Kitchen you’ll find all the tools you need for family music making along with CD of 30 songs… you don’t need to know a thing about music to get started. I was born and raised Western MA, and I LOVE it here. So much to do, you could fill a whole year, let alone a day. It’s hard to choose but one of my favorite days in Western MA would go something like this. Head out promptly in the AM, stop at Elmer’s for tea and some yummy baked good. Head to Pittsfield and go to Berkshire Museum. Pick-up lunch at Bagels Too and eat it at Pontussic Lake. Go up Mt. Greylock, hike a few of the summit trails, then back down the mountain and into North Adams to the Natural Bridge. I would have said take Rte 2 back home, but due to Irene, I won’t be able to take that drive anytime in the near future.

In the winter, we like to go to Berkshire East to go skiiing. Our 3 1/2 year old started this winter. In the summer, we pick strawberries and blueberries. From May to October, we spend a lot of time at our CSA, Mountain View Farm, in Easthampton. We also love to discover “new” playgrounds throughout our travels.
