This Saturday, May 7th, from 5-8 pm, Art Under the Stars shoes will lead you on an Art Walk in Shelburne Falls. Stroll across the Deerfield River and through dozens of shops, galleries and restaurants for an evening of new exhibits, receptions with artists, studio demonstrations, interactive art, and delicious treats. Gaze out over Salmon Falls and the glacial potholes, walk the Bridge of Flowers, ride a historic trolley under the stars in this jewel of an artisans village. Art Under the Stars is free to the public and there will be plenty to do and see. If you haven’t visited Shelburne Falls yet this year, Art Under the Stars is the time to go!

Art Under the Stars invites you to visit Grow Gallery as they celebrate their first year of business. Join them as they raise a toast to fantastic art in a beautiful town shared by wonderful customers (that’s you!). Come see what’s new, meet the artists and enjoy refreshments. As you move down the street be sure to stop in Wandering Moon to preview unique jewelry selections as well as gifts and books which explore history, art, myth, and the natural world.

Don’t miss a stop at Mocha Maya’s as they will be featuring the art of filmmaker/photographer Elijah Rottenberg and his experimental photography. Figurative Spaces is an ongoing photographic investigation of the spaces, worlds and happenings found inside, behind and underneath the various spaces that we walk through every day. These pictures will tell the story of the creation of some invisible world which exists inside these walls. Each picture is printed directly from the image taken by camera and is not digitally altered or manipulated. Finish touring around the village and return as Carley Tanchon (a very talented musician from New York City) will be playing with her full band at 7:30 p.m. as an opener for Sandy Bailey (a wonderful area musician).

Molly Cantor Pottery will also host a concert by: The Over Under, with songwriter/vocalist/banjo player Abe Loomis and David Chalfant on guitar who will play sweet and hot original roots music at 5:00 p.m.

Stop in at the Shelburne Arts Co-op to experience “Earthly Delights,” a display of earthly secrets, losing all these wintery days, in many treasures created by gallery artists such as the weavings of Edith Bingham, the celebration of Spring and the sugaring season in Sarah Holbrook’s photographs, Nina Coler’s watercolors and Louise Minks’ paintings. Join them in sharing some tasty cheese and wine refreshments.

Vavstuga Swedish Weaving will have ongoing weaving demonstrations and the store will be open as well. They will be featuring Glimakra weaving equipment, exquisite Swedish cotton, linen and wool yarns, books and hand woven goods. They will also have information on week-long weaving classes along with on-site lodging accommodations. If you have never woven before and would like to get the best possible start with dependable tools, sound technique and stellar instruction, then be sure to head to 16 Water Street!

As you walk toward the potholes pay a visit to Shelburne Falls Booksellers and browse through their framed prints, lithographs, posters and maps. They also have a varied and unique selection of decorative bindings and art books. A few steps away Young and Constantin Gallery will host “Springtime Musing” featuring three local artist’s interpretations of the season: Christopher Constantin, Jeremy Sinkus Glass and Joanne Soroka – MojoGlass.

Before venturing up the hill, don’t miss a stop in at McCusker’s Market where you will meet the featured artist in their large backroom area. Enjoy natural gourmet foods and other delectable delights. When you leave, head toward the Salmon Falls Artisans Showroom as they have just completed a renovation of the gallery! They will be featuring the May show of students from the Academy at Charlemont and will have background music for your listening pleasure. As you exit their building be sure to step aboard the trolley as they will be giving free rides between the Salmon Falls Artisans Show Room and the Art Garden which will open early (4 pm.). The Art Garden is giving an opening exchange and celebration for a collaborative community exhibit that challenges and inspires us to think about alternative economies. The exhibit is titled: Q: What’s Left? A: Abundance. People are invited to be part of the dialogue and to help create a community art installation that will emerge over the next few months. This is a public brainstorm session. Anyone can co-create directly on the walls and/or attach what they made at home: draw, paint, write your thoughts; respond to what others have contributed. All are welcome, including performers and their art. No prior art experience is required. Bring an idea, an image, a story, a poem, a graph, compelling date and your imagination and curiosity. A great place to begin your tour! Also, the Trolley Museum will be open for the evening and more information can be obtained at

All of this and much more is happening in the village of Shelburne Falls this Saturday, May 7th from 5-8pm.  Just follow the shoes and see what treasure they lead you towards!
