On Sunday, March 13th from 11am-2pm – MAPLE FEST: Hopkins Memorial Forest hosts their annual maple syrup celebration, Maplefest. The festival will feature a variety of activities, such as visits to a working sugar house, an old kettle boiler, tapping of maple trees, wood splitting demonstrations, tree identification, syrup tasting, pancakes and more. EDUCATORS WORKSHOP: here will be a free Junior Solar Sprint (JSS) workshop on Tuesday, March 15th from 4-7pm at Reid Middle School in Pittsfield for teachers and non-formal educators/homeschoolers who want to lead middle school students through the Junior Solar Sprint experience. Organized by CET, the Berkshire Area JSS is an engaging program for middle school students to design, build and enter model solar while deepen their understanding about solar energy, math, physical science and craftsmanship. FAMILY SWING DANCE: The Friends of the Meekins Library invite you to Swing into Spring with a swing dance on March 19 at the Grange Hall in Williamsburg. A great time for families with tween/teens! There will be live music by the Zach Pack featuring Zach Danziger of the OTones with his 3-piece combo and a special guest appearance by Susan Farrell. The festivities begin with a free Swing dance lesson at 7pm for all beginners or as a refresher.  Dancing starts at 8pm and there will be special swing dance exhibitions by the Huntington Dance Center and the Hilltown Dance Center. FAMILIES CAN COMPOST: On Saturday, March 19, the Center for Ecological Technology (CET) will offer a free home composting workshop at the Town of Lee Library (100 Main St.) from 10-11:30am. Get your kids and teens involved in home composting. Families will participate in a hands-on demonstration of how to build an efficient and active compost pile. A good home compost system can improve lawns, gardens and houseplants; help the planet by reducing household waste volume; and save money by reducing waste costs and saving the expense of having to purchase topsoil or compost in bags. AHADI/UBORA AWARDS: The African Hall Subcommittee of the Springfield Museums is seeking nominations for the 3rd annual Ahadi Youth Award & 20th annual Ubora Award.—The Swahili word ahadi means promise.
