FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE FOR HILLTOWN HOMEBUYERS: Buying a House? Financial assistance is available now! Hilltown CDC, on behalf of the towns of Chesterfield and Cummington, has grants up to $4,500 for down payment and closing costs as well as deferred payment loans up to $35,000 as a mortgage subsidy. Home purchase must be in Chesterfield, Cummington, Goshen, Peru, Plainfield, Westhampton, Williamsburg or Worthington. Eligibility requirements must be met including household income level, completion of certified first time homebuyer workshop and first time homebuyer status. DONATIONS SOUGHT: For the creation and maintenance of an organic flower and vegetable garden at Buckland-Shelburne Elementary School.  The garden will include five raised vegetable beds, a climbing bean tunnel, and a flower garden.  It will be a valuable educational resource and will provide food for students and teachers.  Donations of supplies (or discounts on supplies) and/or funds are being sought.  Specific supplies necessary are topsoil, wood, plants, and/or fencing materials.  On April 30th there will be a workday to being building the garden, and all are welcome to attend.  For more information, contact Emily Crehan at 625-2377 or emilycrehan@yahoo.com.

BABY SIGN LANGUAGE: Free Baby Sign Language Class for parents and their babies on Saturday, March 5th at the Cummington Family Center from 10:00 to noon.  The Cummington Family Center is located in the Cummington Community House at 33 Main St in Cummington.  The class will be taught by Sujata Rege Konowitz, baby sign language instructor.  This new technique of communicating with your baby helps decrease frustration for babies and allows parents and babies to enjoy early interaction.  For more information contact Lee at the Worthington Health Center, 238-5511 x155.   This class is funded by the Massachusetts Department of Housing and Community Development with support from the Cummington Family Center. PARENT EDUCATION WORKSHOP SERIES: Three free workshops will be offered at the Bridge Street School in Northampton, MA on Fridays from 9:30-11am: Kids Don’t Come With Instructions (March 11th); Siblings, Will They Ever Leave Each Other Alone? (March 25th); and Who’s in Charge? – Surviving Everyday Routines (April 8th). All workshops are for parents of kids 2-5yo and are led by preschool consultant, Erika Frank. Free childcare available. SCREENINGS: The Family Resource Center in North Adams offers FREE Ages and Stages Screenings. Infants and young children have so many developmental changes and milestones in the early years, it’s helpful to know where your child is developmentally and how to best support their growth. Ages and Stages is a well respected screening tool that will guide families in understanding their child’s development. CHILD CARE ASSISTANCE: Need Help Paying for Child Care? The Family Resource Center staff can put families on the Massachusetts Early Education and Care centralized wait list for child care subsidy.
