MUSIC THERAPY: On Friday, September 17th, the Northampton Community Music Center (139 South St.) will host an Open House for its Music Therapy Program for children with Autism Spectrum Disorder. Parents of children ages 3-21 who might benefit from the program are invited to attend. Program director Michael Williams-Russell will speak about the program’s beneficial effects on past participants, and answer questions about how music can make a difference in the lives of those affected by autism. COMMUNITY EXHIBIT: Call to participate in a community exhibit about Walking at The Art Garden in Shelburne Falls. Dept. of Astronomy to watch the Sun rise and set over the tall standing stones in the U.Mass. At the sunrise and sunset gatherings, there will be a presentation which will include the significance of the equinoxes & solstices, the cause of the seasons and phases of the Moon, the story of building the Sunwheel, and discussion of other calendar sites around the world, including Stonehenge & Callanish in the UK, and Chichen Itza in Mexico. There will also be an explanation of the Moon’s 18.6-year cycle, also called the Major Lunar Standstill. Bring your questions, your curiosity, and be prepared for cool temperatures when the Sun is down, including waterproof footwear.
