FEATURED EVENT IN THE HILLTOWNS:
The Cummington Family Center presents: Sleeping Beauty by the Tanglewood Marionettes on Sunday, January 3rd, 2010 at 3pm at the Cummington Community House on Main Street in Cummington, MA. This event is free and open to all. There will be a bake sale with proceeds to benefit the Cummington Family Center. Bakers needed for the bake sale. - BALD EAGLES IN THE HILLTOWNS: Every year, MassWildlife participates in a midwinter eagle survey that occurs nationwide. This year, the Midwinter Bald Eagle survey period begins on December 30, 2009 and ends on January 13, 2010. Everyone who is outdoors and sees an eagle during this time period is encouraged to report his or her sighting! You can send your report to mass.wildlife@state.ma.us. Please provide the date, time, location, and town of eagle sightings, plus the number of birds, whether juvenile or adult, and your contact information. This fall there were several bald eagle sightings on the Westfield River in West Chesterfield, MA, so keep a look out!
- OPPORTUNITY FOR GIRLS: New Moon is looking for new members to join their Girls Editorial Board (GEB)! Girls ages 8 – 13 can apply, and they can be from anywhere in the world, as long as you have daily access to email and NewMoon.com. There are a few things you should know before you apply. Forbes Library
Mondays from 10 to noon
Do you enjoy knitting, crocheting, or some other type of yarn craft or
would you like to start or improve on a yarn craft? You are invited to
the Forbes Library’s Knitting & Crochet circle. This group is a casual
place to meet other yarn crafters of all kinds and experience levels and
share crafting tips and pleasant conversation. Bring your projects in
progress or ideas for new ones.
This group is starting up again for the fall and will meet weekly on
Monday mornings from 10-12 in the cozy Arts & Music magazine lounge.
This circle is facilitated by Nancy Pulley who has experience in
knitting, crocheting, sewing and numerous varieties of crafts, both
personal and for shows. In Nancy’s own words, “I started when I was 12,
so I have been doing these hobbies for 52 years now. WOW, am I old. I am
extremely active, walk everyday, play tennis, bike ride, line dance,
zumba, yoga, watercolor, colored pencil and an avid reader and love
being in a library environment. Can never stop learning!”

In the month of January, the Quarry Cafe will be exhibiting art by co-op kids. The kids’ families have prepared the art for display so we can all enjoy the pieces throughout the month.
Some of the artists will be on hand to discuss their work Friday, January 8th from 5-8 at the monthly artists’ reception.

On January 8 from 4-8 PM, experience the Museum’s galleries after hours. From 4-6PM, experiment with clay to make your own mosaic or sculpture (ages 4+ with adult). From 6-6:30 PM, enjoy a gallery talk by Northampton-based artist Ethel Pointdexter on her unique perspective of a work on view at the Museum. This free monthly event is presented in conjunction with Northampton Arts Night Out.
