Make a Difference Day 2009 Book Drive for Children’s Literacy
Make a Difference by Donating Children’s Books
The ACT Volunteer Center and RSVP of Franklin and Hampshire Counties are sponsoring the Make a Difference Day 2009 Book Drive for Children’s Literacy on Saturday, October 24th, 2009.
On this national day of community service, more than one million people across the country will participate in projects to help others. Based on the success of Make a Difference Day 2009, for a third year, here in the Pioneer Valley the focus of our service will be on children’s literacy.
Organizations and individuals are invited to collect new and gently used children’s books and bring them to one of two drop-off sites on Saturday, October 24th between 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m.:
- Dial/Self Youth and Community Services, 21 Abbott Street, Greenfield;
- Forbes Library, 20 West Street, Northampton.
The Make a Difference Day 2009 Book Drive for Children’s Literacy is an occasion and opportunity for families to experience the satisfaction of giving. Children can donate books selected from among their own collections or help choose a new book for another child. Donated books will be distributed to children in need through such local anti-poverty and family literacy programs as Square One, Holyoke, The Amherst Survival Center, and Valuing our Children of Athol.
