Scholastic Storybook Treasure has rerelease and repackaged Where the Wild Things Are … And 5 More Stories by Maurice Sendak on DVD.   A copy of this newly released DVD is being offered to two lucky families. Details below.

Where the Wild Things Are, which has captured a prestigious Caldecott Medal and sold millions of copies since it was originally published in 1963, is familiar to children –and adults — of all ages. Regarded as a landmark children’s classic, it’s the wildly imaginative story of Max, a young boy who misbehaves and is sent to his room without supper. There, he lets his imagination take him to a faraway place where, after donning a distinctive wolf costume, he befriends the strange, mythical creatures who inhabit the island. But, after a “wild rumpus” Max decides it’s time to head back home, “where someone loved him best of all.”

Including versions of Where the Wild Things Are in English, Spanish and French, children will delight in following the narration of this beautifully animated version of Max’s adventures with the read-along function which highlights the words as they are read. The DVD also includes five other Sendak tales: In the Night Kitchen, Alligators All Around, Pierre, One Was Johnny and Chicken Soup with Rice. And for those kids that go crazy over stickers from the bank, dentist and doctor’s office, they will love the free set of stickers included with this DVD.
