Laura Doherty is a Chicago-based children’s musician and award-winning producer with an ear for a catchy melody. Armed with her acoustic guitar she gets kids and families movin’ and groovin’ to her original toddler-friendly pop tunes. Her newest CD “Kids in the City” contains original songs for the “urban toddler”. Using Chicago as her inspiration, Doherty writes about the El Train, skyscrapers, the Farmer’s Market, the zoo, and all the wonders of the city, as seen through a child’s eyes.

Doherty has recorded on several children’s CDs, including: Parent’s Choice award winning “Songs for Wiggleworms” released in 1999. In 2005 she co-produced and performed on the follow-up CD “Wiggleworms Love You”, also a Parent’s Choice Award winner. In 2008, Doherty performed vocals on several songs written by nationally known kids artist Ralph Covert (of Ralph’s World), for the Disney Sound label. These songs are being sung and enjoyed by students of the Disney English school in China.

Doherty is the director of the early-childhood Wiggleworms program at the Old Town School of Folk Music in Chicago and has been teaching in the program for over a decade. She has also performed for thousands of children and their families all around Chicago. Doherty takes her kids music on the road in October 2009, touring through New England and the mid-Atlantic.
