Get Ready to Buy Local
with the 2009 Locally Grown: Farm Products Guide!
Summer’s here, Valley farms are gearing up to provide everything from asparagus and alpaca wool to zucchini and zinnias, and there’s never been a better time to buy locally grown products. But where to begin? With the 13th annual Locally Grown: Farm Products Guide, a free full-color publication distributed by Community Involved in Sustaining Agriculture (CISA) during the week of June 22nd.
This year’s Guide contains 56 pages of farm and local agricultural products listings, including 181 farms, 40 restaurants, 30 retailers, seven landscape and garden centers, and two dozen other businesses and institutions that make, sell, or serve locally grown goods.
Readers will also find a farm product availability calendar, recipes, tips on storing and eating locally year round, and profiles of this year’s three Local Hero Award recipients.
“CISA is delighted to provide this resource to the community” says Philip Korman, Executive Director. “The Guide is a helpful tool for strengthening the local economy. By using the Guide to buy, eat, store and use locally-grown food and farm products year-round, we are supporting the featured farmers and their businesses.”
During the week of June 22nd the Guide will be distributed in the Daily Hampshire Gazette, The Recorder, and in portions of HampdenCounty through the Springfield Republican. The Guide can also be found in the produce sections of several local retailers, including Atkins Farms Country Market, Big E’s Super Market, select Big Y stores, Cornucopia Foods, Foster’s Super Market, Green Fields Market, McCusker’s Market and Deli, Randall’s Farm and Greenhouse, River Valley Market, State Street Fruit Store, select Stop & Shop stores, and Whole Foods Market.
