Sustainable Solutions: Ball Point Pen Drive (…only in Ashfield!)
Every morning we start out with a stack of ballpoint pens for the waitresses to use and every night they’re gone. We think we know where they are.
We think you got ‘em.
We think you take them home with you. (Look in your car. Look in your pocket. Look in your hair and behind your ears. See? You got ‘em.)
So we would like for you to go through your junk drawer and pull out all the pens that are in there that you haven’t used in 15 years and bring them back to us! And then, when you sign your credit card slip, you can forget and take it home with you again! And we will continue to recycle pens throughout the town for years and years! It’s a perfect sustainable solution!

It’s kind of a spontaneous jam with them and some friends of theirs that they want to play with. Thursdays are dinner nights at Elmer’s and they are going to play during dinner from about 6 to 8 pm. Dinner on Thursdays generally costs less than $10, so come on and get some good food and some great music!
This week, in honor of today being Mardi Gras, we’ll have
Shrimp and Andouille Sausage Gumbo
And Vegetarian Gumbo
We’ll have it better organized this time: More tables, more seats, more waitstaff, dancing permitted, but not directly in front of the band

They’ll be open starting, Saturday, February 28th for 6 weekends, through Sunday, April 5th. The hours are 8:30am – 3:00pm.

Recently you may have seen Tom interviewed on one of the local TV stations this winter about the terrible ice storm damage we suffered in December. They have managed to get most of the woods cleaned up and will be tapping their trees soon, but it was a disaster and they lost many trees. Here are some links to some of the stories:

I would write more, but it’s really pretty out, it’s Mardi Gras Day (the only annual day I find it really, really hard not to be in New Orleans) and I got to go outside—instead of doing my taxes. I remember living in New Orleans and people from the Outside would call that day and I remember standing there answering the phone in my huge finery, saying, “Are you kidding? It’s Mardi Gras!” How could they not know? Now I know, except that I am acutely aware of it.
We’ll have organic ashes for your forehead in the bulk bin on Wednesday.
