Power Outages in the Hilltowns Continues After Ice Storm

There are many families in the hilltowns still without power that will not have their electricity back on until the 20th. If your family is in need of support (or if you know of other families in the hilltowns), or maybe your family has resources to offer/loan (generator, place to warm up, ride to Red Cross Shelter in Williamsburg, etc.) please feel encouraged to post to the HF Local Listserv so communication can be facilitated.

Of course families without electricity may not have access to the internet during these times, so think about giving folks a call to check in too. I can’t tell you how appreciative I was of the many phone calls our family received from friends and relatives checking in, and our neighbors stopping by.  It really warmed our hearts.

    Ice Storm Update 12-15-08 a

This is Larry Holmberg the Emergency Management Director. As of noon today, power had been restored to East Street from South St to Bofat Hill Rd and Bisbee Road. Crews were working on Curtis Road and Main Road from Sugar Hill Rd to the town garage. We also requested an additional tree crew to begin work on Sugar Hill Road.

Tree and chipping crews have been hired by the town to start the clean up process before a snow event makes it more difficult.

The emergency shelter was closed by the Red Cross early this morning. If you need drinking or other water please either call either the fire station until 8 pm tonight at 296-4498, after 8 pm call 296-4247, or after 9 am tomorrow the town offices at 296-4771. We will advise you if this information changes.

Expect an update later tonight after we meet with the power company.
