Step Up to the Plate @ Your Library
Swings into Action!

The boys of summer are stepping up to the plate, so why not join them? The American Library Association and the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum are getting into the swing of things by launching the third season of Step Up to the Plate @ Your Library. It could be your chance to win a trip to the National Baseball Hall of Fame!

All you have to do is use the resources at your library to answers a series of baseball trivia questions. All of the questions were developed by the library staff at the Baseball Hall of Fame (Click here to read more about information literacy.).

There are two ways to enter:

Just visit the program website and click on “how to enter” to either register to play the game online, or download a playbook for your age group:

• 10 and under
• 11-13
• 14-17
• 18 and up

The trivia questions celebrate the 100th anniversary of the iconic song “Take Me Out to the Ball Game.” Categories include:

• ballparks
• baseball in popular culture
• fan experience
• baseball pioneers

One grand-prize winner will receive a trip to the Hall of Fame to attend the World Series Gala in Cooperstown, N.Y. and receive a behind-the-scenes tour. In addition, the winner will also be given a baseball signed by program spokesperson and Hall of Famer, Ozzie Smith.

Smith, a Mobile, AL, native, was on hand to help kick off the national program at Hank Aaron Stadium, home of the Mobile Bay Bears, the local Minor League team, on April 4. The first 1,000 library lovers who attended the game received a package of Hall of Fame baseball cards.

The program ends September 1, 2008, so step up to the plate soon if you want hit a homerun that will take you all the way to the Baseball Hall of Fame.
